Episode 46: Mark Ramsey

Mark Ramsey, President of Mark Ramsey Media, is my guest, and as usual, he brings it for radio, particularly listener-supported radio stations, and the great opportunities we have to strengthen our connection beyond what Neilsen ratings dictate. Key Quote: “If you have a local radio station, if you’re gonna bother to be in the market, if you can have talent who are in the midst of the hundred mile radius of your metro — why are you keeping it all within those four walls? Bring it outside. Allow people to be part of the larger experience. Now, what is that have to do with Nielsen? Nothing. What does that have to do with the experience? Everything.”

Mark is brillant. Listen. But also SUBSCRIBE BELOW.

Episode 38: John Frost

39485_646788798473_2964469_nJohn Frost and I talk about his resolutions for 2013 for radio, based on an excellent article on Ted Kelly’s HisAir.net. Encouraging our team, looking at what we do as a craft, and how we relate “spiritual” content on-air are all discussed. BE SURE to read his excellent article “My New Year’s resolutions for the Contemporary Christian format” at HisAir.net if you have not. http://hisair.net/columns/john_frost1-9-13.htm

Episode 37: Holly Buchanan

Holly Buchanan

The author of the book “Selling Financial Services To Women” and the blog “Marketing To Women Online”, Holly Buchanan gives some great insight on avoiding stereotypes and contextualizing our message on female-targeted radio stations.

I think it’s really important to not just assume we have this figured out. Since women are the target audience of the vast majority of Christian stations, it only makes sense to check our language, assumptions, and style to make sure we’re not pushing away the very ones we are trying to reach.

Holly really helps us to do that.

New Year, New Episodes

The Christian Radio Show is back next week with an all new episode with scheduled guest Holly Buchanan, of the excellent website “Marketing To Women Online”.

We’ll discuss the truths, and stereotypes about reaching women with media, and offer some help on the best way to connect.

Check out her blog. It is EXCELLENT. (And she was a creative director for a radio group for 15 years, so she’s one of us!)

Episode 36: Tommy Kramer

Tommy Kramer

Our format’s leading talent coach offers his perspective on how radio is doing and what he thinks is important. And as usual, he tells it like he sees it. And yet, this is a very uplifting conversation for programmers and talent alike, I think.

NOTE: This was recorded about a month ago. Have not had the chance to publish till now.

Tommy Kramer has spent over 35 years in radio as an on-air talent, Programmer, and Talent Coach, and has worked with over 200 stations in all formats, specializing in coaching morning team shows. He was elected to the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2003.
